‘Where does that lasting joy come from?’
This is what Vito Mancuso asked a few days ago in an editorial published in the Italian daily newspaper La Republica …
He continued: ‘What are the origins of that deep happiness, that lasting joy for life, that stillness of spirit and mind, which are the signs of an authentic spiritual experience and which alone can give a convincing answer to young people’s anxieties?
This may appear to have nothing to do with the trip to Asia by Maria Voce and the delegation form the Focolare Centre. Surprisingly, it was quoted by Professor Donati, Director of the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo, which hosted the meeting on Saturday 17 January of the members of the Focolare Movement in Japan, coming together to meet the President and Co-president of the Movement. In his opening address to the 380 participants Prof Donati concluded: ‘Today your presence has answered that question. I think I have understood! I thank you also because this is the first time in three years that I have seen our auditorium full.’
In fact, the atmosphere amongst the members of the Focolare, gathered in the heart of the Japanese capital, was that of a family celebration. They came from all over Japan: from Hokkaido to Okinawa. The most numerous groups were from Nagasaki and Tokyo, where the movement has been present the longest.

Mi sono venute le lacrime agli occhi a leggere questo breve scritto di Roberto! Grazie Roberto del dono che ci hai fatto con il racconto di questa specialissima esperienza. Sento che Gesú mi chiede di amare di piú per essere sempre nella gioia e darla agli altri che mi passano accanto!
Commuove anche me partecipare in un modo così diretto a questo viaggio . Sperimento una nuova dimensione del vivere tutti con tutti e tutti per tutti. Che grandiosa è l’esperienza di dialogo che qui si rende visibile, palpabile. Il conoscersi reciprocamente è fondamentale per amarsi. Qui l’approccio alla realtà è completamente diverso dallo sguardo violento e cupo con cui la tv ci presenta il mondo. Penso che questo tipo di dialogo, propagato con la vita, ma per amore anche con tutti i mezzi intormatici ecc. a disposizione , avrà consequenze enormi per l’umanità. E’ il futuro! Grazie per tutto.
